Tomoko SHIROYAMA is a Professor at the Graduate School of Economics, Faculty of Economics, The University of Tokyo. Her research focuses on Chinese Economic History and Asian Socio-Economic History, with particular emphasis on the monetary and financial systems of China in the late 19th to early 20th centuries, as well as commodity trades and overseas Chinese in Asia. She has led a group project on intra-Asian socio-economic comparisons, utilizing spatial analyses and database construction. Her publications include studies on international banking, remittances, and financial markets in China. She has also edited several books on modern Asian economic history.
