Regular biography
Youyou Lu is an Associate Professor in the Department of Computer Science and Technology at Tsinghua University. Her research interests include Computer Systems and Artificial Intelligence Systems. She has pioneered 'software-managed flash' (later known as Open-Channel SSD), which removes the FTL to expose flash hardware directly to system software, revolutionizing industry practices. She also designed an RDMA-based distributed NVM file system, introducing the concept of distributed shared persistent memory. Lu leads the development of SuperFS, which is deployed in 'Pengcheng CloudBrain II' and has topped the IO500 ranking since 2023. She has proposed innovative techniques in vector storage, GPU memory management, and scheduling, receiving multiple paper awards. Her work has been recognized with several honors and awards, including the FAST Distinguished Artifact Award and the ACM SIGMOD Research Highlight Award.
