Song, Min Joon Research Asst. Professor

Song, Min Joon is a Research Asst. Professor in the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering at KAIST. Their research focuses on Environmental Microbiology. Song holds a Ph.D. in Civil and Environmental Engineering from KAIST, Korea, and a M.Eng. in Environmental Science and Engineering from POSTECH, Korea. They also earned a B.Sc. in Life Sciences and Biotechnology from Shanghai Jiao Tong University, China. Song, Min Joon Ph.D., is a researcher in Environmental Microbiology, Microbial Ecology, Computational Biology, and the Nitrogen Cycle. His work focuses on understanding microbial processes in environmental systems, particularly in wastewater treatment and agroecosystems. He investigates the ecological and physiological implications of nitrogen oxide reduction pathways on greenhouse gas emissions and explores the role of microbial communities in nitrogen removal. His research also includes genomic analysis of antimicrobial resistance in global sewage and the development of biofiltration systems for nitrous oxide (N2O) mitigation. Additionally, he examines the impact of environmental stressors on microbial activity and the dynamics of microbial networks in engineered systems.
