Regular biography
Prof. Emer. Shin, Hang-Sik is an emeritus professor in the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering at KAIST. His research focuses on environmental engineering, particularly in the areas of nutrient removal, anaerobic digestion, and membrane technology. He has contributed to the development of novel treatment technologies for managing environmental pollution, including processes for methane and hydrogen production, wastewater treatment, and solid waste management. Prof. Shin has held various leadership roles, including President of the Korean Society of Environmental Engineers and Director of the Clean Water Research Center. His academic background includes degrees in civil engineering and environmental engineering from Seoul National University and Pennsylvania State University.
