Regular biography
Prof. Emer. Kim, Jin-Keun is an Emeritus Professor in the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering at KAIST. His research focuses on concrete mechanics, particularly the quantitative analysis of concrete cracking. His laboratory was designated as a national research laboratory for the control of concrete cracking in 1999. His work includes characterizing the causes of concrete cracking and developing crack-control systems, which involve analyzing concrete structures considering factors such as hydration heat, differential shrinkage, and environmental changes. His research also covers nonlinear analysis of concrete structures, long-term behavior associated with creep, shrinkage, and autogenous shrinkage, and fracture mechanics-based studies on cracking mechanisms and ductile cementitious composites. He has held various academic and administrative roles at KAIST and has contributed to several professional organizations and committees.
