J. Enrique Luco

J. Enrique Luco is a Professor Emeritus in the Department of Civil Engineering at the University of California, San Diego. He holds the title of Chair and is affiliated with the Jacobs School of Engineering. His research focuses on earthquake engineering, structural and soil dynamics, with an emphasis on computational modeling and large-scale testing to assess structural and soil behavior during seismic events. Luco has developed active vibration control mechanisms for tall buildings and applied systems identification techniques to analyze structural behavior changes. Prior to joining UCSD in 1974, he was a senior research fellow at Caltech. He was awarded the Walter L. Huber, Civil Engineering Research Prize from the ASCE in 1986 and is a member of the editorial board for the International Journal of Soil Dynamics and Earthquake Engineering.
