Kenneth Loh

Kenneth Loh is a Professor and Chair in the Department of Structural Engineering at the University of California, San Diego. His research interests include human performance monitoring, structural health monitoring, human-structure interactions, multifunctional materials, nanocomposites, soft materials, tomographic methods, and wearable technology. Loh is the Director of the ARMOR Laboratory and the Jacobs School of Engineering, Center for Extreme Events Research. He is also a faculty affiliate of the Center for Wearable Sensors. Loh joined UC San Diego in 2015 as an Associate Professor after holding positions at UC Davis. He received his Ph.D. in Structural Engineering from the University of Michigan in 2008.

Kenneth Loh TaylorMade Golf Chancellor's Endowed Professor focuses on stimuli-responsive materials, human performance, wearable sensors, and structural health monitoring. His research explores the development of multifunctional materials and sensors for applications in structural integrity assessment and human physiological monitoring. Key projects include the design of carbon nanotube-based thin films for strain and corrosion sensing, wireless sensor networks for bridge monitoring, and wearable fabric sensors for tracking human performance. His work also addresses the integration of nanotechnology in construction materials, such as self-sensing concrete and nanoengineered ultra-high-performance concrete. These efforts aim to enhance the reliability and functionality of smart materials and systems.
