Regular biography
John Kosmatka is a professor and chair at the University of California, San Diego, in the Department of CE. His research focuses on the design, analysis, and experimental testing of lightweight advanced composite structures. He has worked on projects involving unmanned atmospheric research aircraft, health monitoring systems for UAVs, and composite structures for military and sports applications. Kosmatka has also developed composite army bridges and in-field bridge manufacturing systems. He holds the Callaway Golf Chair in Structural Mechanics and has been recognized as Jacobs School Structural Engineering "Teacher of the Year." His work includes over 100 papers on composite structures and 24 U.S. patents.
