Hyonny Kim is a Professor and Chair in the Department of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering at the University of California, San Diego. His research focuses on impact effects on composite materials and structures with aerospace and other applications, multifunctional materials, nano-materials, and adhesive bonding. Kim earned a Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering from the University of California, Santa Barbara in 1998 and joined the faculty at Purdue University in 2001. He is active in the American Society for Composites and participates in revisions of the Composites Mil-handbook 17. His work includes studies on the effects of carbon nanotubes on electrical contact resistance and the compressive strength of ice at high strain rates.
