Joel P. Conte

Joel P. Conte is a Distinguished Professor and Chair in the Department of Civil Engineering at the University of California, San Diego. His research focuses on structural analysis and dynamics, structural reliability and risk analysis, earthquake engineering, and damage diagnosis and prognosis for civil structures. Conte's work involves developing methodologies for probabilistic performance assessment of civil structures using computer models, experimental testing, and field data. He is also developing methods based on sensor arrays and system identification techniques to detect and identify damage in civil infrastructure systems. Prior to joining UCSD in 2001, he was an associate professor at UCLA and Rice University. He is a member of the American Society of Civil Engineers and the Earthquake Engineering Research Institute.
