Daniel Stack

Daniel Stack is an Associate Professor of Chemistry at Stanford University, affiliated with the Department of CHEM. His research interests include Catalysis, Inorganic Chemistry, Materials Chemistry, and Organic Chemistry. His work focuses on the mechanism of dioxygen activation and oxidative reactivity with copper complexes ligated by imidazoles or histamines, particularly in substrate hydroxylations and dioxygen reduction. Inspired by metalloenzymes, his group investigates oxidative mechanisms through spectroscopic and computational methods. Stack received his B.A. from Reed College in 1982 and his Ph.D. in Inorganic Chemistry from Harvard University in 1988. He was an NSF Postdoctoral Fellow at the University of California at Berkeley before joining Stanford University in 1991, where he was promoted to Associate Professor in 1998. His contributions to undergraduate education have been recognized, including the Dinkelspiel Award in 2003.
