Sharon R. Long

Sharon R. Long is a Lecturer in the Department of Biology at Stanford University. Her research focuses on the biochemistry, genetics, and cell biology of plant-bacterial symbiosis. She joined the Stanford faculty in 1982 after completing her postdoctoral work with Fred Ausubel, where she began studying rhizobia-legume symbioses. Long holds a B.S. with Honors from the California Institute of Technology and a Ph.D. in Cell and Developmental Biology from Yale University, where she worked with Ian Sussex on plant development. Her laboratory investigates the molecular mechanisms underlying symbiotic interactions between plants and bacteria.
