Cummings Russell

Russell Cummings is a Visiting Fellow at the University of Oxford, Department of Engineering Science. His research focuses on hypersonic modeling and simulation challenges and highly maneuverable aircraft simulation. Cummings holds a BS, BA, MEngr, and PhD in aerospace engineering and a B.A. in music. He is currently Professor of Aeronautics at the U.S. Air Force Academy and Director of the Hypersonic Vehicle Simulation Institute. Prior to this, he was Professor of Aerospace Engineering at California Polytechnic State University, where he also served as department chairman for four years. He has worked at Hughes Aircraft Company and completed a National Research Council postdoctoral research fellowship at NASA Ames Research Center.

Russell M. Cummings is a Professor of Aeronautics at the US Air Force Academy, specializing in Aerodynamics and Computational Fluid Dynamics. His research focuses on advanced aerodynamic modeling, hypersonic flow phenomena, and the application of computational methods to predict complex flow behaviors. Cummings has contributed significantly to the understanding of detached-eddy simulation, unsteady aerodynamic modeling, and the numerical prediction of transonic and supersonic flows. His work includes studies on delta-wing vortical structures, Gurney flap effects, and the integration of computational and experimental approaches for unmanned combat air vehicle stability and control.
