Martin Smith

Martin Smith is Professor of Organic Chemistry at the University of Oxford, affiliated with the Department of Chemistry. His research focuses on enantioselective catalysis, the synthesis of complex molecules, and non-covalent interactions in catalysis. His group investigates methods for the synthesis of natural products and explores the structural influence of C—H···O interactions. He is also co-director of the EPSRC Centre for Doctoral Training in Synthesis for Biology & Medicine. Smith's academic career includes positions at the University of Cambridge, where he worked with Professor Steven V. Ley CBE FRS. He holds the Old Members' Helen Martin Fellow position at University College, Oxford.
