Regular biography
Dr Zoe Smallwood is a member of the Department of Chemistry at the University of Oxford. She is responsible for the day-to-day operation of the 2nd and 3rd year practical laboratories and coordinates the training of Junior Demonstrators within the Chemistry Teaching Laboratories. Dr Smallwood obtained a PhD in synthetic inorganic chemistry from the University of Sheffield, focusing on main-group coordination chemistry, particularly pseudohalide ligands in group 14 coordination complexes. She joined Oxford in 2019 and became Deputy Director of the Teaching Laboratories. She gained Fellowship of the Higher Education Academy accreditation in 2017. Her research interests include coordination complexes with unique reactivity and main-group coordination chemistry, alongside educational interests in developing new practicals in synthetic inorganic chemistry and research-informed teaching.
