Dean Sheppard is the Departmental Lecturer in Physical & Theoretical Chemistry at the University of Oxford, Department of Chemistry. He is also the Physical Chemistry tutor at St Peter’s College, Somerville College, and Lady Margaret Hall. His role involves providing synoptic revision lectures, setting the first-year Preliminary Examination in Physical Chemistry, and teaching on the UNIQ scheme and the Opportunity Oxford and MPLS Bridging programmes. He studied for his MChem degree at Magdalen College (2008-2012) before completing his DPhil in Physical & Theoretical Chemistry at New College (2012-2016) under Professor Stuart Mackenzie. His DPhil research focused on photochemical spin dynamics in proteins, involving the development of optical cavity-enhanced techniques to detect changes in reactivity caused by magnetic fields. He transitioned to teaching after his DPhil, holding lectureships at several colleges before being appointed as Departmental Lecturer in 2019.
