Regular biography
Nicholas Green is a professor in the Department of Chemistry at the University of Oxford. His research focuses on stochastic processes in chemical kinetics, radiation chemistry, and unimolecular reactions. His work explores the influence of dynamical random processes on reaction rates, including diffusion and reaction of particles in solution, collisional energy transfer, and stochastic descriptions of kinetics in systems with small numbers of reactants. He has developed a stochastic simulation method (the IRT method) for diffusion kinetics, which is now used worldwide. Green has held various academic positions at Oxford, including Director of Studies and Chair of the Faculty of Chemistry since 2006. He has also been involved in teaching and leadership roles, including serving as Associate Head of Department (Teaching) until 2023.
