Martin Galpin

Dr Martin Galpin is Director of Studies and Associate Head of Department (Teaching) for the Department of Chemistry at the University of Oxford. He studied for his MChem in the Department of Chemistry at Oxford before moving to Balliol College in 2001 to undertake his DPhil with Professor David Logan. He continued in the Logan group as a postdoctoral research associate and held a Junior Research Fellowship at Worcester College from 2006 to 2010. In 2011, he took up the position of Departmental Lecturer in Mathematics for Chemistry and was appointed to a Supernumerary Fellowship at University College. He became Deputy Director of Studies in 2017 and Director of Studies and Associate Head of Department (Teaching) in 2023. His research interests include condensed matter theory, with a focus on strongly-correlated systems and quantum many-body techniques.

Martin R Galpin is a researcher whose work focuses on quantum physics and molecular imaging. His research interests include quantum phase transitions, Kondo physics, and the behavior of quantum dots in various systems. He has published extensively on topics such as capacitively coupled double quantum dots, two-channel Kondo physics, and the interplay between Kondo physics and spin-orbit coupling in carbon nanotube quantum dots. Additionally, he has explored the structural principles of small heat-shock proteins and the correlation between breath acetone and blood betahydroxybutyrate in type 1 diabetes. His work bridges theoretical and experimental approaches to understand complex quantum systems and biological macromolecules.
