Regular biography
Andrew Frawley is a Lecturer in Practical Chemistry at the University of Oxford, Department of Chemistry. His role involves delivering the integrated practical course for the first three years of the MChem degree, with a focus on developing students’ practical skills and confidence in chemistry. He also works on updating the practical course to ensure its relevance. Frawley completed his MChem and PhD at the University of Durham, supervised by Prof. David Parker FRS. His PhD research focused on chiral emissive lanthanide complexes for security labelling and imaging, earning him the Ken Wade PhD Thesis Prize in 2018. He later worked as a postdoctoral research associate at Oxford and held a Junior Research Fellowship at Christ Church from 2019 to 2024. His research has centered on photoswitchable emissive molecules and their application in super-resolution fluorescence microscopy, combining organic synthesis with spectroscopy. He joined his current position in September 2024.
