Regular biography
Richard Cooper is an Associate Professor of Chemistry at the University of Oxford, affiliated with the Department of Chemistry. He serves as Head of Chemical Crystallography and leads the Machine Learning and Methods Development group at Oxford Drug Design. His research interests include experimental and computational methods in X-ray and neutron crystal structure analysis, with a focus on developing and applying tools for characterizing crystalline materials. Cooper's work explores the use of cheminformatics descriptors and machine learning models to understand molecular crystallization and design novel materials for applications such as sensors, catalysts, and energy storage. He is also a past President of the British Crystallographic Association and Scientific Director of the UK Intensive Teaching School in X-ray Structure Analysis.
