Eric Vanden-Eijnden
Regular biography
Eric Vanden-Eijnden is the Paulette Goddard Chair in Mathematics at New York University's Department of Mathematics. His research focuses on the mathematical and computational aspects of statistical mechanics, with applications to complex dynamical systems in molecular dynamics, materials science, atmosphere-ocean science, fluids dynamics, and neural networks. More recently, he has explored the mathematical foundations of machine learning and its prospects for scientific computing. His work integrates tools from probability theory, mathematical physics, numerical analysis, and optimization to uncover governing principles in complex systems and design efficient algorithms for their simulation.
