Regular biography

Thomas E Bureau is an Associate Professor in the Department of Biology at McGill University. His research focuses on Molecular, Cellular and Developmental Biology, Conservation, Ecology, Evolution and Behaviour. His work explores the molecular evolution of genes and genomes, with an emphasis on the role of mobile elements in the evolution of developmentally important genes. He investigates transposition mechanisms of novel mobile elements, including MITEs, and develops genomics-based approaches to study genome evolution. His research also examines the role of retroelement-mediated cellular gene transduction in the evolution of retroviruses. Additionally, he uses phenomics to study the impact of climate change and environmental pollution on plant breeding and agricultural technology.
