Chunyi Zhi is a Chair Professor at The University of Hong Kong, Department of ME. He received his B.S. degree in Physics from Shandong University and his Ph.D. in Condensed Matter Physics from the Institute of Physics, Chinese Academy of Sciences. He served as a postdoctoral fellow at the National Institute for Materials Science (NIMS) in Japan and later held positions as ICYS Researcher, Researcher, and Senior Researcher there. Before joining The University of Hong Kong, Dr. Zhi was a Chair Professor in the Department of Materials Science and Engineering at City University of Hong Kong. His research focuses on aqueous electrolyte-based batteries, solid-state batteries, and zinc-ion batteries. As of July 2025, he holds over 100 patents and has published more than 500 research papers. Dr. Zhi has been recognized as a Clarivate Analytics Global Highly Cited Researcher in Materials Science (2019–2024) and in Environment and Ecology (2024).
