Haim Sompolinsky is a Lecturer in the Department of Molecular & Cellular Biology at Harvard University. His research focuses on uncovering the fundamental principles of brain organization, dynamics, and function through multiscale lenses, spanning molecular, cellular, and circuit levels. He develops theoretical approaches to computational neuroscience using statistical physics and dynamical systems methods. His work includes studies on cortical dynamics, sensory processing, motor control, memory, and neural learning. Sompolinsky's research areas also encompass neuronal population coding, statistical mechanics of learning, and the Tempotron model of spike time-based neural learning. His research explores the neuronal mechanisms of volition and the intersection of physics and neuroscience with human freedom and agency.
