Regular biography

Donald B. Bliss is an Associate Professor in the Thomas Lord Department of Mechanical Engineering and Materials Science at Duke University. His research interests include fluid mechanics, aerodynamics, acoustics, and structural dynamics. Professor Bliss has developed an analysis method called Analytical/Numerical matching (ANM), which combines numerical and analytical solutions to improve accuracy and computational efficiency. His work involves aerodynamics of lifting surfaces, vortex wakes, and structural acoustics, with applications to helicopter performance, vibration, and noise prediction. He has also contributed to methods for sound attenuation and acoustic scattering from submerged elastic bodies.
