Dewey G. McCafferty is a Professor of Chemistry at Duke University, affiliated with the Chemistry department. His research spans chemical biology, mechanistic enzymology, and molecular medicine, with a focus on enzymes that modify chromatin, such as histone deacetylases and demethylases. His work explores the therapeutic potential of these enzymes, including their role in anti-depression therapy and overcoming bacterial resistance. McCafferty's laboratory also investigates antibiotic natural product biosynthesis and inflammatory bowel disorders. He is a member of the Duke Cancer Institute and has contributed to numerous publications and grants in these areas.
