Regular biography

Steven Malcolmson is an Associate Professor of Chemistry at Duke University, affiliated with the Chemistry department. His research focuses on the discovery of novel methods for the efficient and selective synthesis of small molecule scaffolds through the design and development of new catalysts. The Malcolmson lab seeks to realize new synthetic bond disconnections while controlling aspects of selectivity, such as enantio- and site selectivity. The catalysts and methods developed in the group are applied to the synthesis of biologically active molecules to address problems in human health. His work includes the development of catalytic enantioselective methods for the synthesis of 1,2-amino tertiary alcohols and their analogues, as well as the preparation of 1,4-diamines through Cu-Josiphos-catalyzed reductive couplings.
