Jinwei Gu

Jinwei Gu is an Adjunct Associate Professor in the Department of Computer Science at The Chinese University of Hong Kong. His research interests include computational imaging, computational photography, computer vision, and machine learning. Prof. Gu joined CUHK in March 2023. He holds a Ph.D. from Columbia University and previously served as R&D Executive Director at SenseBrain from 2018 to 2023. He is an associate editor for IEEE Transactions on Computational Imaging and IEEE Transactions on Pattern Analysis and Machine Intelligence. His work has been published in top conferences and journals such as CVPR, ICCV, and PAMI.

Jinwei Gu is a researcher in computer vision, machine learning, computational photography, and computer graphics. His work focuses on enhancing low-light images and videos using deep learning, developing foundation models for physical AI, and improving camera localization through geometry-aware learning. Gu also explores radiometric calibration, neural inverse rendering, and computational multi-camera adjustment for smooth view switching. His research includes generative latent banks for image super-resolution, spatial propagation networks for affinity learning, and polarimetric multi-view stereo. Additionally, he investigates fingerprint recognition, dynamic facial analysis, and time-varying surface appearance. His contributions span both theoretical and applied aspects of computer vision and machine learning.
