Regular biography
Benjamin Stappers is a Professor of Astrophysics at The University of Manchester, affiliated with the Jodrell Bank Center for Astrophysics. His research focuses on radio pulsars, neutron stars, and rapid radio transients, with particular interest in the use of these objects to study gravitational waves and the early universe. He is a member of the European Pulsar Timing Array and the international Pulsar Timing Array projects. Stappers is also co-PI of the transients key science project of LOFAR and leads the LOFAR pulsar effort. He has contributed to the development of software for pulsar data analysis and has been involved in the design of the Square Kilometre Array (SKA) pulsar and fast transient search capabilities. He joined The University of Manchester in September after holding positions at ASTRON in the Netherlands and the University of Amsterdam.
