Regular biography
Christopher Parkes is a Professor of Experimental Particle Physics at The University of Manchester, where he serves as Head of Department for Physics & Astronomy. His research focuses on the discovery of new physics effects through the study of matter-antimatter asymmetries and the development of radiation-hard silicon detectors. He was previously the leader of the Large Hadron Collider Beauty (LHCb) experiment and led the UK's construction activities for the LHCb Upgrade, which completed installation in 2023. He is also involved in the LHCb Upgrade II project and has contributed to various particle physics experiments, including the DELPHI experiment at CERN. His work contributes to the UN Sustainable Development Goals, particularly SDG 7.
