Michael Garrett

Regular biography

Michael Garrett is the Sir Bernard Lovell Chair in Astrophysics and Director of the Jodrell Bank Centre for Astrophysics at The University of Manchester. He leads the Astronomy and Astrophysics Theory Group and is based at the Alan Turing Building and Jodrell Bank Observatory. His research interests include the study of the distant universe through high-resolution radio observations and the Search for Extraterrestrial Intelligence (SETI). He is also a visiting professor at the University of Leiden and has held positions at ASTRON and JIVE. His work contributes to Sustainable Development Goals related to industry, innovation, and climate action.
