Laura Fumagalli

Laura Fumagalli is a Reader in Condensed Matter Physics at the Department of Physics & Astronomy, The University of Manchester. She is a staff researcher at the National Graphene Institute (NGI). Her research focuses on the experimental study of dielectric polarization and electrodynamic properties of bio and non-bio nanoscale systems using scanning probe microscopy. She received her M.Sc. in Electronic Engineering in 2002 and her Ph.D. in Information Technology in 2006. She joined the University of Manchester in 2015 as a lecturer and was promoted to Reader in 2019. Her work includes the development of scanning dielectric microscopy (SDM) and the investigation of dielectric properties of molecular liquids under atomic-scale confinement. She was awarded the ERC Consolidator grant 'Two-dimensional liquid-cell dielectric microscopy' (Liquid2DM) in 2018.
