Mike C Smith is a Professor of Welding Technology in the Department of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering at The University of Manchester. His research focuses on extending conventional continuum mechanics weld modelling to predict both continuum and microstructural parameters, with applications in welding technologies for advanced nuclear reactors. He was appointed to the Chair of Welding Technology at Manchester University in May 2013 after a career in structural integrity within aerospace and nuclear industries. Smith is also Director of the EDF Modelling and Simulation Centre (MaSC).
