Abbie Jones

Abbie Jones is a Chair in Nuclear Graphite at The University of Manchester, Department of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering. Her research focuses on the fundamental behavior of nuclear graphite for use in reactor systems, particularly in Advanced Gas-cooled Reactors (AGR). Prof Jones' work involves microstructural and analytical techniques such as Transmission Electron Microscopy, Raman spectroscopy, X-ray and Synchrotron Diffraction, and Synchrotron tomography to understand structure/property relationships in irradiated graphite. She is actively involved in UK and international research programs and has secured over £10 million in grants to support nuclear R&D. Her research contributes to Sustainable Development Goals 9 and 12.
