Regular biography
Katie Smith is a Professor in the Department of Aerospace Engineering at the University of Manchester, where she leads the Space Systems Research Group. She is also the Director of the Centre for Robotics and Artificial Intelligence (RAI) and a Principal Investigator for several research projects, including the Visions of, and steps towards, an Environmentally Sustainable Space Future and the RAI: Centre for Robotics and Artificial Intelligence. Her research interests include space systems, robotics, artificial intelligence, and sustainable space technologies. She has published extensively in these areas and is a Fellow of the Royal Aeronautical Society and the Society of Manufacturing Engineers. She is also a member of the European Space Agency's Scientific Advisory Committee.
