Regular biography
Matthew Roy is a Senior Lecturer in Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering at The University of Manchester. His research focuses on the in-service performance of additively manufactured metallic systems, integrating residual-stress measurement, digital twins, and large-scale wire-arc directed energy deposition. He leads the Additive Manufacturing & Performance (AMP) group within the Henry Royce Institute and has authored widely on benchmarked residual-stress assessment and verification methods. Roy collaborates across aerospace, nuclear, defence, and energy sectors and previously served as Senior Lecturer, helping found and coordinate the EPSRC Centre for Doctoral Training in Materials for Demanding Environments (2018–24). His work contributes to Sustainable Development Goals 7 and 9.
