Regular biography
William Crowther is a Professor in the Department of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering at The University of Manchester. His research interests include Unmanned Air Vehicles (UAVs), experimental aerodynamics, and flow control. He has led several research projects, including the development of the 'FLAVIIR' flapless aircraft and the 'Tumbleweed' unmanned helicopter. Crowther has also conducted research expeditions to the Amazon rainforest using UAVs for biodiversity surveys. He has supervised 25 PhD students and managed £5M in research funding. His work contributes to Sustainable Development Goals related to affordable and clean energy and good health and well-being.
