Randall Kamien

Randall Kamien is a Professor in the Department of Physics at the University of Pennsylvania. His research focuses on soft matter theory, with an emphasis on materials geometry, Landau theory, broken symmetry, and Goldstone modes. He explores geometric tools to understand the behavior of soft matter, including topological defects and their implications for material properties. Kamien is the Vicki and William Abrams Professor in the Natural Sciences and a Simons Investigator. His work includes studies on liquid crystals, statistical mechanics, and anharmonic elasticity. He teaches courses such as Mathematical Methods of Physics and Statistical Mechanics.
