Regular biography
Mariangela Bernardi is a Professor in the Department of Physics and Astronomy at the University of Pennsylvania. Her research focuses on galaxies, super-massive black holes, observational cosmology, large-scale structures, peculiar motions, and QSOs. She has contributed to the analysis of galaxy properties and their environments, the co-evolution of galaxies and black holes, and the study of the intergalactic medium. Bernardi has been involved with the Sloan Digital Sky Survey (SDSS) for two decades and is acknowledged as a 'Builder' of the SDSS. She has also pioneered the use of Deep Learning techniques for galaxy morphology analysis and produced Value Added Catalogs included in the SDSS-IV Data Release 15. Her work has significantly advanced understanding of galaxy formation and evolution.
