Regular biography
Elena Mantovan is the Taussky-Todd-Lonergan Professor of Mathematics at the California Institute of Technology, affiliated with the Division of Physics, Mathematics and Astronomy. Her research focuses on Arithmetic Geometry and Number Theory, particularly the study of moduli of abelian varieties and Barsotti-Tate groups, as well as the arithmetic theory of Shimura varieties and their local models. Her work investigates questions within the framework of the Langlands program, exploring connections between automorphic forms and Galois representations. She holds a Laurea from the University of Padova, an M.A. from Harvard University, and a Ph.D. She has held various academic positions at Caltech, including Assistant Professor, Associate Professor, and Professor, and was appointed as the Taussky-Todd-Lonergan Professor in 2023.
