Charles J. Brokaw is a Professor of Biology, Emeritus at the California Institute of Technology, Department of Biology. His research focuses on the mechanisms of motility of eukaryotic flagella and cilia, particularly the regulation of dynein motor enzymes that cause microtubule sliding and bending. His work involves experimental studies using demembranated spermatozoa from marine invertebrates and computer simulations to analyze flagellar movement. Brokaw has held various leadership roles at Caltech, including Executive Officer for Biology and Associate Chairman of the Division of Biology. His research has contributed to understanding signal transduction steps in sperm motility and the properties of motor enzymes.
