Kanchana Thilakarathna

Dr Kanchana Thilakarathna is an Associate Professor at the School of Computer Science, The University of Sydney. His research interests include system and network security, mobile computing, networking and communications, cyberphysical systems and internet of things, cybersecurity and privacy, distributed systems and algorithms, pervasive computing, data mining and knowledge discovery, distributed computing and systems software, and data management and data science. Prior to joining The University of Sydney, he was a Research Scientist at the Networks Group, Cyber-Physical Systems Research Program at Data61-CSIRO and previously NICTA during Nov 2014 - Aug 2017. He received his PhD in Electrical Engineering and Telecommunications from The University of New South Wales and his B.Sc. Engineering degree with First Class Honours specialising in Electronics and Telecommunications Engineering from The University of Moratuwa, Sri Lanka.

Kanchana Thilakarathna is a researcher at the University of Sydney with expertise in Privacy & Security, AI, Mobile Systems, and Computer Networks. Their work explores challenges in wearable devices, blockchain-based smart contracts, and security in mixed reality environments. Thilakarathna has investigated privacy risks in 3D mixed reality data, developed delay-tolerant payment schemes using Ethereum blockchain, and studied money laundering on the Bitcoin network. They have also focused on mobile social networking, opportunistic content dissemination, and deep learning for encrypted traffic analysis. Research highlights include self-supervised cross-modal learning for 3D point cloud understanding and synthetic video traffic generation using GANs.
