Josiah Poon

Associate Professor Josiah Poon is a member of the School of Computer Science at The University of Sydney, where he leads research in data mining and knowledge discovery, natural language processing, information extraction and fusion, information retrieval and web search, neural networks, machine learning, artificial intelligence, data engineering and data science, data management and data science, and deep learning. His work focuses on machine learning and natural language processing for data-driven decision support, with an emphasis on natural language understanding, conversational AI, and multimodal document analysis. A fundamental priority of his research is the critical management of bias in language models, as biased models can inflict serious harm. His group generates widely used datasets and open-source benchmarking frameworks that support the global academic community and industrial deployment.
