Regular biography
Oliver M. O’Reilly is the Vice Provost for Undergraduate Education, the Faculty Athletics Representative, and a Distinguished Professor of Mechanical Engineering at the University of California, Berkeley. He received his B.E. in Mechanical Engineering from the National University of Ireland, Galway, and his M.S. and Ph.D. degrees in Theoretical and Applied Mechanics from Cornell University. After postdoctoral work at ETH-Zürich, he joined the faculty at UC Berkeley in 1992. His research interests include continuum mechanics and nonlinear dynamics, with applications in areas such as soft robots and MEMS resonators. He has authored numerous publications, textbooks, and patents, and has received multiple teaching awards.
