Regular biography
Nicholas Avery is a political economist at The University of Sydney, affiliated with the School of Work and Organisational Studies and the Australian Centre for Gender Equality and Inclusion at Work. His research focuses on barriers to women's career progression in male-dominated industries. He completed his PhD in the Discipline of Political Economy at the University of Sydney, examining drivers of wage suppression in the Australian meat processing industry since the mid-1980s. His work draws on applied political economy and classical Marxist theories to analyze structural changes in the meat industry. His research interests include low-paid work structures, the future of work, and visual data communication. Previously, he was a researcher in pain medicine at the University of Sydney.
