Julian Prester

Dr Julian Prester is a Senior Lecturer in Business Information Systems at the University of Sydney Business School. His research focuses on business information systems, business systems in context, organisation and management theory, and workplace wellbeing and quality of working life. He investigates how digital technologies are transforming knowledge work, professional identity, and organisational life, combining ethnographic fieldwork with software development. Dr Prester is the co-developer of CoLRev, an open-source platform for collaborative literature reviews, and callsforpapers.org, a community resource tracking calls for papers in Information Systems. His work explores digital nomadism, algorithmic organising, and AI-augmented remote work. He serves as Managing Editor and Editorial Review Board member of the Journal of the Association for Information Systems (JAIS).

Julian Prester's research focuses on Digital Work, Remote Work, Remote Organising, and Digital Nomadism. His work explores the dynamics of identity formation, performance, and practice within digital work environments, particularly through the lens of digital nomads. Prester investigates how individuals navigate and shape their identities in the context of remote and digital work, emphasizing the interplay between technology, practice, and social interaction. His research also addresses the scientific impact of Information Systems (IS) literature, including review articles and design science research, and employs computational methods to analyze conceptual and ideational impact. His studies contribute to understanding the evolving nature of work, technology, and organizational practices in digital contexts.
