Huan Zhang

Dr Huan Zhang is a lecturer in the Discipline of International Business at the University of Sydney Business School. His research focuses on the global strategy and non-market strategy of multinational enterprises in emerging markets, particularly how institutional dynamism influences firm behavior such as innovation, CSR, and digital upgrading. His work has been published in journals such as the Journal of International Business Studies, Global Strategy Journal, and Journal of International Management. He is a member of the Academy of International Business, Academy of Management, and Strategic Management Society. Dr Zhang obtained his bachelor’s degree in sociology from Renmin University of China and his master’s degree in political science from the University of Miami. He completed his PhD in a joint program between Sun Yat-Sen University (China) and the University of Miami (USA).

Their research explores the dynamics of multinational enterprises (MNEs) in emerging economies, focusing on factors such as corruption, informal institutions, and green innovation. Zhang's work examines how these elements influence foreign direct investment, business strategies, and the performance of international new ventures. They also investigate the role of social capital in emerging markets, particularly through business entertainment as a form of gray social capital. Their research contributes to understanding the complexities of international business in a de-globalized world.
