Jeraul Mackey is an Assistant Professor of Organizational Behaviour in the Desautels Faculty of Management at McGill University. He joined the faculty in 2023 after completing the University of California President's Postdoctoral Fellowship at UC San Diego’s Rady School of Management. His research focuses on Economic Sociology, Mechanisms of Inequality in Markets, Occupations & Organizations, and Organizational Theory. Mackey studies how organizations hire new workers with an emphasis on racial, gender, and class inequality and their intersections. His work investigates how evaluators decide who has competence and the role cultural capital, merit, and supply-side characteristics play in shaping employment decisions. He uses ethnographic and qualitative methods, administrative records, and original field experiments to examine the consequences of these evaluative processes.
