Regular biography
George Alex Whitmore is Professor Emeritus, Operations Management, at McGill University's Desautels Faculty of Management. He joined the faculty in 1969 and was promoted to full professor in 1975. He was awarded the Samuel Bronfman Chair in recognition of his research accomplishments in 1982. Whitmore taught numerous graduate and undergraduate courses in operations research, statistics, and economics, and also taught at academic institutions in China, Singapore, and Thailand. His research interests include risk management, reliability, and survival analysis, with publications in statistical journals and Chinese-language publications. He has supervised many graduate students and held senior academic positions. Whitmore has remained active in research and consulting since retiring and is an Affiliate Investigator in the Clinical Epidemiology Program of the Ottawa Hospital Research Institute.
