Paul Steif

Paul Steif is a Professor Emeritus in the Department of Mechanical Engineering at Carnegie Mellon University. He taught in this department from August 1983 until his retirement in December 2023. His research focused on engineering education, particularly on how students learn basic engineering concepts and the development of educational materials to enhance understanding. His work addressed learning in Statics, a required course in many engineering disciplines. He also developed interactive courseware for statics and was heavily involved in developing sophomore mechanics courses. Additionally, he served as Associate Department Head from 2013 until his retirement.
